Regional Transportation Planning

The Mark Twain Regional Council of Governments (MTRCOG) partners with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) to provide grassroots input on the regions transportation system. This input comes through the Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) which is made up of two representatives from each of the 8 counties we serve.

The TAC meets quarterly to discuss the pertinent transportation issues of the region, performs an annual Needs Prioritization Process, and meet with local MoDOT officials.

Once the Needs Prioritization Process is completed the needs are sent to MoDOT for their review and possible inclusion into the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).

The Council of Governments is very active in many MoDOT sponsored meetings, statewide planning initiatives, statewide needs prioritization, and corridor improvement groups.

The MTRCOG provides many services to member governments which include traffic counting and analysis, consultation on local transportation projects, and the use of a mobile radar speed trailer unit. These services are provided at no cost to member governments to help maintain, develop and monitor their transportation/roadway infrastructure.
